Walking and Mud Rooms

There are two real estate trends that have been bubbling up over the last few years, though different, the two physical spaces share a common border. One deals with the layout of cities, neighborhoods, and suburbs. The other deals with the way in which we enter our houses, and what we do with all the stuff we take out of our houses with us daily, such as car keys, and coats.

Sidewalks also are a common thread that ties together a neighborhood for such purposes as daily strolls, randomly stopping and talking to neighbors, or taking a dog for a walk. Sidewalks are conduits that lead to local businesses, parks, and playgrounds.

The other trend is mud rooms. At first merely a place to set dirty shoes, has now blossomed into an area with many functions. Besides being a pass-thru between garage and house, it may also contain a washer and dryer, coat racks, and storage or items such as keys, umbrellas, and backpacks.
