House Hunting and Habits

slIn the book Power of Habit by Charles Duhigg, it is estimated fifty to sixty percent of our daily activities are habitual. This is not necessarily bad. Would be difficult to relearn how to brush our teeth or drive a car every time you do that particular activity. There are also activities that are done daily, that could be considered bad habits such as buying and consuming donuts. Habits also extend to likes and preferences, such as the usage of a particular brand or style of dress. Below are ways in which habits and lifestyle preferences effect house hunting and the choices that are made.

  • Preference for particular house color or style of decorating could be determined by past places that have been lived in.
  • Being drawn to a certain type of house such as a ranch or two story, could also be determined by style of house that have previously lived in.
  • A house may be liked simply because of the relaxing properties that is brings such as water-frontage or a golf course.
  • Analyzing if a desired item is truly wanted, or just a habit or preference can help to solidify a wish list.
